Numbers 13:32-33 (ESV) - So they brought to the people of Israel a bad report of the land that they had spied out, saying, "The land, through which we have gone to spy it out, is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people that we saw in it are of great height. And there we saw the Nephilim (the sons of Anak, who come from the Nephilim), and we seemed to ourselves like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them."
Wowwww. First of all, the Word of God never ceases to amaze me. So many great lessons. And this lesson is one some people never learn. The way we perceive ourselves is how others are going to perceive us. How do you show up in the world? Do you show up with self-doubt, shoulders hunched, making yourself as small as possible? Or do you show up with a smile, confidence, and friendly body language? When you show yourself to others, they will believe the narrative that YOU create for yourself. If you do not take anything else away from anything I write, I pray that this is what sinks in.
Thank you Oprah :) You know that phrase "fake it 'til you make it?" Well I don't like it. I think it's better to invest in the work that it takes for you to actually believe in yourself. Start small. Identify some of the beliefs you have about yourself that make you cringe when you hear them come up in your mind whenever you try to move forward. Truly reflect on each one of them. Do you remember what first triggered that belief about yourself? What would happen if when you hear that voice you open your mouth and say it's not true? What is the worst that could happen? What are you afraid of? OK I think you get the point, I will stop asking you questions! But it's important to identify what is holding you back and trace it back to its root so you can truly deal with it and LET IT GO!!! Like really let it go, don't just pretend to let it go but really store it away for later. I care about you. You care about you. It's time. And you can do whatever works for you to get there. You can journal this whole process out. You can write the limiting beliefs on pieces of paper and burn those things! Whatever it takes, do it. You know what we need now after that therapeutic moment? You guessed it... some more Oprah inspiration!
Mmmmmmmm yes! That's some good stuff there. Dig deep. We tell ourselves who we are, and you can change that at any moment. Who do you want to be? And please don't name other names. Tell yourself what kind of person you are. As Oprah learned from Jim Carrey, it's about calling those things into our lives that we desire. It's not faking it, it is believing it. Believe it.
